This Privacy Policy explains how Tea (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Tea mobile app and related services (the “Service”).
By using Tea, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
1. Who We Are
Tea is a character chat app that lets you talk with AI characters, create your own bots, and manage your chats and profile.

2. Information We Collect
A. Account Information
When you sign up or sign in, we may collect:
- Email address
- Username
- Password or authentication credentials (handled by our auth provider; we do not store your raw password)
- Profile details you choose to add (for example, avatar)
B. Content You Create or Send
- Messages you send in chats
- AI replies generated in your chats
- Characters/bots you create (name, tagline, starting message, avatar, visibility settings, and related details)
- Chat history and conversation metadata (such as timestamps)
C. Usage and Device Information
We may collect limited technical information needed to run the app, such as:
- App version and device type/OS
- Crash logs or basic diagnostic data
- Approximate timestamps of activity
D. Photos You Upload
If you choose to upload a bot avatar or other image, that file is stored so it can be shown in the app.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal data beyond what you choose to put in your chats, profiles, or character content.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Provide chat features and save your conversations
- Generate AI replies to your messages
- Show characters on Discover (if public) and let you manage your bots
- Improve reliability, security, and performance
- Respond to support requests
- Enforce our terms and prevent abuse
4. AI Providers and Message Processing
To generate replies, Tea sends relevant chat content (such as your message, recent conversation context, and character prompt details) to third-party AI providers.
Currently, AI requests may be routed through OpenRouter to model providers, including Alibaba Cloud International.
About logging and training (as disclosed by OpenRouter for this provider):
- This provider may retain prompts (logs).
- This provider does not use those prompts for training.
Because AI providers may process and temporarily retain prompt/content data to deliver the service, you should not share information in chats that you are not comfortable sending to third-party processors (for example, passwords, financial details, government IDs, or highly sensitive personal information).
Tea does not sell your chat content.
5. How We Store and Share Information
We use trusted service providers to operate Tea, including:
- Supabase — account authentication, database storage (profiles, characters, chats, messages), and file storage (such as avatars)
- OpenRouter / model providers (including Alibaba Cloud International) — AI reply generation
These providers process data only as needed to provide their services to us, under their own terms and privacy practices.
We may also share information:
- If required by law, legal process, or government request
- To protect the rights, safety, or security of Tea, our users, or the public
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice where required)
Public characters: If you set a bot to Public, other users may see its public profile details (such as name, tagline, avatar, and creator username) and chat with it. Private bots are only visible/usable by you.
6. Data Retention
We keep your account data and chat content while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service.
You may delete bots you created. Deleting a bot may also remove related chats tied to that bot.
If you want your account and associated data deleted, contact us at contact@chatwithtea.com. We will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify your data, except where we must retain information for legal, security, or operational reasons.
Note: AI providers may retain prompt logs for a limited time according to their own policies, even after you delete content in Tea.
7. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account/data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Export a copy of your data

In the app, you can also:
- Edit your bots and visibility (public/private)
- Start new chats
- Sign out of your account
8. Children
Tea is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International Transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by our service providers and AI providers. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your home country.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date above, and may provide additional notice in the app if changes are significant. Continued use of Tea after an update means you accept the revised policy.
